Antifungal Activity of Propyl-Propane-Thiosulfinate (PTS) and Propyl-Propane-Thiosulfonate (PTSO) from Allium cepa against Verticillium dahliae: In Vitro and in Planta Assays

Verticillium wilt, caused by dahliae, is the most devastating soil-borne fungal disease of olive trees worldwide. Currently, there no effective measure available to control pathogen in diseased plants open field conditions. Searching more and sustainable solutions are a priority for sector. The existing alternatives include use biological microorganisms compounds natural origin from plants, such as Alliaceae. Propyl propane thiosulfinate (PTS) propyl thiosulfonate (PTSO) two organosulfur derived Allium cepa with widely documented antimicrobial activity. aim this study was evaluate antifungal activity PTS PTSO against defoliating non-defoliating V. dahliae pathotypes. Firstly, several vitro tests were performed (Minimum Antifungal Concentration, susceptibility studies according Kirby–Bauer disk-diffusion method, through aerial diffusion effect on mycelial growth). ability both sanitize soil evaluated using sterile substrate inoculated dahliae.
